At least this is what I kept hearing at my uncle’s 60th birthday celebration this past weekend.
My uncle, Armien, was born in Cape Town in 1954 to my amazing grandparents. Following in the footsteps of his father, Armien became a tailor. He married his wife, Jasmiena, and together they raised their two sons, Gasan and Allie. Both their sons are now married and have children of their own, so Armien is a doting granddad to five precious children (four girls and one boy, named after him).
On Sunday, the family (including Armien’s sisters, brothers and their children and grandchildren) came together to celebrate their eldest brother’s 60th year. What a fun family day it turned out to be.
As always, these celebrations MUST be filled with lots of food.
It started off with a braai. For this I contributed green salad and three bean salad. The other braai sides (potato salad and noodles) were made by Roshan, Armien’s daughter-in-law.
Dessert was the most exciting table by far. That being said, I ended up eating none of it. The braai filled me up too much.
Anyway, let me take you through it.
CAKES AND DESSERTS
My Double Layer Pavlova. You can order from me if you’re not brave enough to attempt it yourself.
My cousin Faatimah’s beautiful chocolate cake. You can order this too.
Cousin (in-law? Is that a thing) Roshaan’s delectable chocolate cake.
Cupcakes for the kids
Pudding, yet more pavlova (made by my cousin’s sister-in-law) and biscuits.
My aunt Ibtisaam’s sexy Swiss Rolls. Pudding cups that she provided too.
Cakes that the birthday boy man ordered.
And there you have it. All the desserts and cakes. There were many diabetics at this party, but you’d never have known because they indulged their cravings.
It’s always the diabetics that buy the sweetest things! One day I will order that pavlova from you and eat it by myself!
Lol. Zayaan, eating it by yourself will be giving yourself the “gift” of diabetes. 🙂
Worth it!
