I wish I could tell you that this was just like that episode of Friends. Sadly, I was not stuck in an ATM vestibule (are there any of those around?) with the supermodel (hiiii David Gandy). No, my tale is a little more regular and boring than Chandler’s night with Jill Goodacre.
I woke up at 2am to discover the house in absolute darkness and the kind of silence that only comes from the lack of white noise electricity tends to make. I had a moment of panic where I thought I’d run out but then remembered I checked the meter when I came back home and knew it could not have been that. A look out the window showed complete darkness. Suddenly every sound I heard from outside was someone wanting to attack us. Why is there no logic in the dead of night? I managed to fall asleep again only to wake at 4:30 when the white noise returned after the blackout was over. I discovered today it was planned maintenance by the City of Cape Town.
Anyway onto the g(f)ood stuff. I realise I missed telling you about my iftar and suhoor on Friday so here are a couple of pics of that. Suhoor was scrambled eggs and spinach as well as green juice. Iftar was a burger I’d been craving all day.

Scrambled eggs and spinach for suhoor on Friday.

Beef burger with guacamole, jalapenos, rosa tomatotoes on the base. On top of that white Gouda topped with a lovely beef patty and caramelised onion. Finally some lettuce and the top half of the seeded bun.
Yesterday we were invited over to my aunt and uncle’s for iftar. I am not a big eater at iftar but there’s something about eating when in large groups that makes you not realise just how you’re stuffing your face. It’s only when you have to get up from the table that you realise you’ve overindulged.
So grateful for all the good things we were lucky enough to consume yesterday at iftar. A big thank you to my aunt Samgah and uncle Majidie for their gracious hospitality as always. We had a really good time.
Please enjoy the pics of last night’s feast.

I made these mini tacos to take along as well. Look out for the recipe later this week.
Tonight we’re keeping it simple Insha-Allah. We’ll be just be having veg soup and some savouries.
What’s been on your menu this weekend? Tell me in the comments section below.
