Hi everyone.
Just a quick update about what I’m up to.
Yesterday my mom and I started our journey to Indonesia to attend my cousin’s wedding. What a journey it has been and (at the time of writing) we are only halfway there.
We’re flying via Qatar airways since their rates were the best value for money but that of course came with a 10 hour layover.
This airport is massive so I had planned to explore as much of it in the time between flight. However I didn’t think I’d have a busy week leading up to this trip and that all I’d want is to sleep.
Thankfully there are quiet rooms where passengers can sleep and I managed around 3 hours before I woke up thinking I’d missed my flight. At 4am I managed to get my mom roused from a very deep slumber and she and I freshened up and got the most expensive toast and coffee we’d ever had.
A small coffee was around R60 and 2 slices of toast and butter were R30. I don’t think anywhere in SA will you pay R90 for simple toast and coffee.
Hamad International Airport is not cheap and the long layovers might tempt you into buying all the cool things on offer.
We were so discombobulated when we arrived that I bought us 2 hot chocolates. Converted the rate now and realised I paid R75 for each cup. Boo hiss. At least it tasted good.
It’s 20 minutes before we board the flight to Jarkarta so I’ll end this post here. I’ll try to update more while I’m I’m Indonesia.
OMG you are like the only person other than myself and my sister to use the word discombobulated
So funny
Kind Regards

I have to admit I do like Qatar airways and their airport. I had a 6 hour stop over on one of my trips in both directions. The playgrounds are not as child safe and friendly as I’d like them to be (Aus really tops most countries with playground designs) but they were quite decent for a 3 year old.
And the hot chocolate definitely is the best. We stopped at the same cafe and bought the largest size possible. And the bear…. Who knows what’s up with that bear… Seriously
